Sit-to-Stand & Hoyer Lifts

Manual and electric patient lifts available locally for purchase or rent

Helping someone move safely shouldn’t feel overwhelming. Whether you’re assisting a loved one at home or supporting patients in a care setting, a Hoyer lift can make transfers smoother, safer, and more comfortable for everyone involved.

At HME Home Medical, we offer both hydraulic (manual) and electric Hoyer lifts for purchase or rental, along with sit-to-stand lift options for patients who have some weight-bearing ability. Our team will walk you through your options and help you find the right solution for your space, needs, and comfort level.

What is a Hoyer lift?

A hoyer lift is a type of patient lift designed for individuals who are non-weight bearing and unable to support themselves during transfers.

It allows a caregiver to safely move someone between surfaces, including:

  • Bed to wheelchair
  • Wheelchair to recliner
  • Floor to bed
  • Bathroom transfers

If a patient cannot hold themselves upright at all, a hoyer lift is typically the safest and most appropriate option.

Hoyer lift vs Sit-to-Stand Lift

Understanding the difference between a hoyer lift and a sit-to-stand lift is key to choosing the right equipment.

Sit-to-Stand Lift:

  • Designed for patients who can bear some weight and hold onto support
  • Assists with standing and pivoting
  • Encourages patient participation and mobility

Hoyer Lift (Full Patient Lift):

  • Designed for non-weight-bearing patients
  • Provides full-body support with a sling
  • Caregiver completes the transfer with the lift

If you’re unsure which option fits your needs, we’ll walk through it with you.

Every hoyer lift requires a sling to safely support the patient.

For rentals:

  • One sling is included

For purchases:

  • Slings are purchased separately to ensure proper fit and hygiene

Sling options include:

  • Full-body slings
  • Full-body slings with commode opening
  • U-slings
  • U-slings with head support
  • Mesh slings for bathing

Proper sizing and style matter—we’ll help you choose the right one based on the patient’s needs.

Delivery, Setup & Training

We don’t just drop equipment off and leave.

Our team will:

  • Deliver and position the lift
  • Review a safety and orientation checklist
  • Demonstrate how to use the lift
  • Answer your questions

You can also visit our showroom in Green Bay to see equipment in person before making a decision.

Insurance Coverage

A hoyer lift may be covered by insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid with the proper documentation.

Because coverage varies, we recommend reaching out to our team — we’ll help you understand what’s required and what options are available.

Is a Hoyer Lift Right for You?

A hoyer lift is a great solution for many situations—but not all.

A good fit if:

  • The patient is non-weight bearing
  • Transfers are unsafe manually
  • Caregiver strain is a concern

Things to consider:

  • Manual lifts require some physical effort from the caregiver
  • Space is needed to maneuver the lift safely

If a hoyer lift isn’t the best option, we’ll help you explore alternatives like a sit-to-stand lift or ceiling lift.
